"AN EYE FOR
AN EYE ONLY ENDS UP MAKING THE WHOLE WORLD BLIND" (Mahatma Gandhi)
Revenge is sweet – or so I
heard. But, is seeing someone suffering not bitter? A constant battle will
never make progress, so I believe we should forgive and forget. Where would
anger and jealousy bring us? Nowhere.
For example, if a classmate of
mine put snow in my satchel, I would be quite mad. Is revenge a good solution
for this problem? I could do something even worse to him, but by doing so, I
would only start some sort of a war between us. We could talk about our
problem, I could ask him what I did wrong and try to understand him better. We
might even become good friends and help each other.
If the leaders of the world had
done the same, a lot of wars would not have been started. We would have avoided
so much suffering, so many tears. I am afraid that the need for materialistic
goods will overcome generosity and make people greedy and envious. This can
only mean people will try to undermine others to get to better positions and
the undermined will do everything to get even.
In conclusion, we will never
evolve/make progress, if we hold on to our grudge for too long. There is no
need for hatred in my opinion, thus I try to let go of any resentments. If I
can teach my children not to be vengeful, I will make a difference.
